Peter laid his throbbing head on his desk, lightly banging it against the wood. Parchment was stroon all across the desk, with ink bottles open, and quills everywhere.
"This isnt happening" he said out loud, still banging his head. "We cant handle a war! We're still recovering from the first one!"
There came a soft knock on the door, and Peter raised his head, blinking a few times. "Come in" he called.
The door handle turned, and his best friend Clare, peaked her head around the corner. Her maple brown hair slid from behind her shoulders, and dangled in loose curls.
Peter laid his head back down on his desk "This is bad Clare. THis is very bad"
Clare stepped into the office gently closing the door behind her "Whats wrong Peter?" she asked, gathering her lavander skirts, running behind his desk. Peter handed her the letter not even lifting his head. Clare opened the golden parchment and read.

King Peter.
We, the Calormen Army, are requesting that you agree to marry our Princess, Aerina Gladril, of Calormen
If you do not agree, we shall be forced to declare war on all of Narnia.
Please send your request as soon as possible. Thank you for your time,and cooperation.

"Oh Peter!" Clare gasped dropping the letter on the floor.
Peter lifted his head "I cant marry her! I dont love her! I refuse to marry someone i dont love!" he screamed in rage. He stood up knocking all the papers off his desk. He grabbed his stain glass lamp, and raised it above his head ready to throw it across the room. "Peter! Stop!" Clare screamed grabbing the arm that was raised above his head. "Peter, please calm down"
Peter lowered his arm, and set the lamp back on his desk. He let out a shakey breath and closed his eyes. "I'm sorry." he said quietly. Clare grabbed his other hand, and pulled his around the desk and set him on the cough across from it. He sat down, laying his head on the sation pillows behind him "I dont want to marry her I dont love her Clare.I cant marry someone i dont love'' he said near tears. Clare crouched down on the floor, stroking his cheek with her thumb. "Peter, Love, your King. YOu have to do things you dont want to."
"Well i dont want to be King anymore " he said a few tears escaping his eyes. "I'll turn the throne over to Edmund or someone else."
Clare wiped his tears away, and kissed his forehead. ''There is a solution to everything dear. And im sure Aslan would help you out. Just dont loose faith. Dont loose hope"
Peter looked up at her, his blue eyes glistening with tears, and gave her a small smile "Thanks Clare...your right i guess." he sat up, pulling her off her knees. She sat next to him on the couch, and he wrapped his strong arms around her waste. She hugged him tightly around the neck resting her head on his shoulder. She smiled, playing with the ends of his hair. Peter pulled away and smiled at his best friend. "Thanks again Clare. I couldnt have asked for a better friend." he leaned over and kissed her cheek. The two smiled at each other, their hearts pounding hard against their chests.
"KING PETER! YOUR NEEDED RIGHT AWAY!"
Peter tore his gaze from Clare's and stood. "I'll see you later Clare" he said giving her a smile. Clare nodded smiling back, as she watched him leave the room.
